La chiesa di San Marcuola: il cantiere di Giorgio Massari e le influenze di Antonio Gaspari.

The thesis aims to analyze the church of San Marcuola in Venice through the direct study of documents, retracing its history from the foundation to its reconstruction by the architect Giorgio Massari. The first chapter introduces the historical and cultural context of the church, it will examine the studies regarding Giorgio Massari as well as the objectives and the methodology of the research. The second chapter will present all the reconstruction attempts prior to the eighteenth-century one, focusing on the case of Antonio Gaspari; it will also illustrate all the schools that were located in the church, as well as the priests who attempted to rebuild it over the years. The third chapter delves into the phases of the reconstruction of the building, shedding light on the workers involved and the costs incurred. The projects created by Massari will also be examined, and all the influences that Gaspari's works had on them will be analyzed. The fourth and last chapter aims to analyse the works that adorn the church, including the sculptures by Gaetano Susali, the canvases by Francesco Migliori and the wooden apparatus, also designed by Massari.

La tesi si pone l'obiettivo di analizzare la chiesa di San Marcuola a Venezia attraverso lo studio diretto dei documenti, ripercorrendone la storia dalla fondazione fino alla sua ricostruzione operata dall’architetto Giorgio Massari. Il primo capitolo introduce il contesto storico e culturale della chiesa, esaminando lo stato degli studi su Giorgio Massari e definendo gli obiettivi e la metodologia della ricerca. Nel secondo capitolo vengono presentati tutti i tentativi di ricostruzione precedenti a quella settecentesca, focalizzandosi sul caso di Antonio Gaspari; vengono inoltre illustrate tutte le scuole che avevano sede nella chiesa, così come i pievani che nel corso degli anni hanno tentato di ricostruirla. Il terzo capitolo approfondisce le fasi della rifabbrica dell’edificio, facendo luce sulle maestranze coinvolte e i costi sostenuti. Vengono inoltre esaminati i progetti realizzati da Massari, cercando di evidenziare le influenze che le opere di Gaspari ebbero su di loro. Infine il quarto capitolo si propone di analizzare le opere che adornano la chiesa, tra cui le sculture di Gaetano Susali, i teleri di Francesco Migliori e gli apparati lignei, anch’essi progettati da Massari.
