1.000 giorni di conflitto russo-ucraino: cos'è cambiato nel turismo veneto?

The present paper aims to analyse the consequences of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the tourism in Veneto, especially after 1.000 days since the beginning of the conflict. At first, an introduction will be given on the themes of tourism and geopolitical conflicts, including a closer look at the relationship between the two macro-themes. Then, the focus will be on the Russian-Ukrainian war, with an initial description of the peculiar aspects of this conflict and, subsequently, with a focus on the impacts in the tourism sector. First of all, the consequences will be analysed at national level and then focusing on the Veneto Region, taking into account the changes over five years: from the year before the pandemic, 2019, until the following year of the outbreak of war. The paper will then continue with an in-depth analysis of the effects on four Venetian tourist poles, particularly affected by Russian and Ukrainian flows of tourism: the city of Venice, the thermal basin of Padua, with particular reference to the town of Abano Terme, the city of Jesolo and the city of Cortina. Finally, the views of private tour operators and Russian and Ukrainian citizens will be reported, mainly through the results of some questionnaires distributed to these individuals, as well as the Region’s point of view, through the material collected through an interview conducted with a Veneto Region Tourism Department official. For this thesis, online databases and bibliographical references were consulted and about multiple disciplines, from the geography to the economy and tourism management. In addition, the analysis was carried out using Google Forms and statistical databases for tourism at national (ISTAT) and regional level (Osservatorio Turistico Federato della Regione del Veneto).

Il presente elaborato ha come scopo l’analisi delle conseguenze della guerra russo-ucraina sul turismo veneto dopo 1.000 giorni dallo scoppio del conflitto. Inizialmente si introdurranno i temi del turismo e dei conflitti geopolitici, per poi approfondire la relazione tra le due macro-tematiche. Si proseguirà poi con il focus specifico sulla guerra russo-ucraina, con un’iniziale descrizione degli aspetti peculiari di tale conflitto, soffermandosi poi sugli impatti in ambito turistico. Prima di tutto le conseguenze verranno analizzate a livello nazionale e successivamente con focus sul Veneto, prendendo in considerazione le variazioni nel corso di cinque anni: dall’anno prima della pandemia, il 2019, fino all’anno successivo dello scoppio del conflitto. L’elaborato proseguirà poi con l’approfondimento degli effetti su quattro poli turistici veneti particolarmente interessati da flussi russi e ucraini: la città di Venezia, il bacino termale padovano, con particolare riferimento alla località di Abano Terme, la città di Jesolo e la città di Cortina. Infine, vengono riportati i punti di vista degli operatori turistici privati e dei cittadini russi e ucraini ottenuti dai risultati di alcuni questionari distribuiti a tali soggetti e il punto di vista della Regione Veneto attraverso il materiale raccolto tramite un’intervista effettuata ad un funzionario della Direzione Turismo della Regione Veneto. Per questa tesi sono state consultate banche dati online e riferimenti bibliografici di diverse discipline, dalla geografia, all’economia e il management del turismo. Inoltre, per effettuare l’analisi sono stati utilizzati dei Form Google e le banche dati di statistica per il turismo a livello nazionale (Istat) e regionale (Osservatorio Turistico Federato della Regione del Veneto).
