Adolescenza in favela: le madri bambine di Rocinha

Teenage in the favela: baby mothers from Rocinha. This thesis is the result of a field experience in the Favela Rocinha of Rio de Janeiro, researching about teenage pregnancy. The experience led to the making of interviews to people from Rocinha about Teenage Pregnancy and the context of the favela. In the 1st chapter will be introduced the context of the favelas, from history to some statistics, and some detailed information about the specificity or Rocinha. In fact it is the biggest Favela, slum, in South America. In the 2nd chapter will be discussed the adolescence, from a general perspective to the specific elements of the brazilian society. Also will be explained how teenager from the favela have a completely different experience of life due to the context they live in. These concept will introduce the question about teenage pregnancy. Finally the conclusion to this research resulted with the hipotesis that teenage pregnancy in the Favela is not an unwanted happening in these girl’s life trajectories, yet it is not planned. This is the result of low education as weel as a strong gender definition of female’s roles as mother and housewife, which neglect any orher expectation for the future. The matherhood is an oportunity to social status, as well as a permanent bond.
