The thesis aims to characterize the chemical, physical changes, and thermal stability of 12 different protective coatings used for cultural heritage after 5 months of artificial aging. Several non-invasive techniques were used like optical microscopy, colorimetry, static contact angle, FTIR. Furthermore, one invasive technique was used, TG-DSC for the characterization of the thermal stability of the samples. Finally, all the data were collected and compared after 5 months of aging to investigate the changes of the coatings.

Abstract

The thesis aims to characterize the chemical, physical changes, and thermal stability of 12 different protective coatings used for cultural heritage after 5 months of artificial aging. Several non-invasive techniques were used like optical microscopy, colorimetry, static contact angle, FTIR. Furthermore, one invasive technique was used, TG-DSC for the characterization of the thermal stability of the samples. Finally, all the data were collected and compared after 5 months of aging to investigate the changes of the coatings.
