Digital Technologies, Sustainability and Business Models in Agriculture

The aim of the thesis is to understand how current technological innovations address the question of agriculture’s sustainability. The first part will focus on the Business Model Theory, more precisely how a business project is created and how it develops over time. I will take into consideration the various evolutions of the Business Models that have occurred over the years. Focusing in particular on the aspect that contributed to the creation of the Sustainability Business Model Canvas. Following with a literature review, where I will evaluate from an academic point of view which digital technologies are used and which benefits they have brought. The third part will get more into detail about the Italian sector compared with the European one both in terms of size and policies. It proceeds with an analysis of different case studies like suppliers, software developers, and farms located in the northeast of Italy. In order to observe their decision-making process. The thesis ends with considerations of the relationship between technology and sustainability and on applications seen in the cases.
