This thesis aims to analyse Edward Morgan Forster's Italian novel A Room With a view, published in 1908. It is divided into three chapters, which are preceded by a brief introduction. The first chapter focuses on the author's early life, his studies at Cambridge and his frequent travels abroad that characterized the second part of his long life. The second chapter deals with a general overview of the novel's plotand its lenghty genesis. The main characters will be analysed in detail, in connection with the major themes. I will also include Forster's depiction of Italy, which characterises the first part, set in Florence. In the third chapter the two cinematographic adaptations of A Room With a View, the most famous directed by James Ivory (1985) and the one made for television directed by Nicholas Renton (2007) will be also dealt with. In conclusion, my thesis highlights Forster's importance in contemporary literature and cinema.
