My dissertation is about the illicit coca crops in Colombia. Particularly, I am going to analyze the international agreements to reduce the cocaine traffic. In the first chapter I talk about the history of coca with the origins of protectionism, and the process of transformation to let the coca leafs become cocaine. The second chapter regards the international trade and relations of Colombia towards the United States, the European Union, and Latin America in a drug-related point of view. Chapter number three is about the internal situation of Colombia, particularly about how the citizens and the government feel about the situation affecting their country, and an explanation of which are the main traffic groups will be provided. In the last chapter I am going to talk about the aid programs and agreements of the main actors in order to reduce the illegal traffic of cocaine. These main actors are the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union. Moreover, the nowadays situation of cocaine traffic and the global (and internal) economic effects of it are analyzed. Finally, regulation or legalization of the coca market are taken into consideration, as the recent discussions are going towards this possibility.
