The thesis analyses public support for the Italian film industry as a point of balance between cultural protection and industrial policy. After reconstructing the economic rationale for State intervention, from market failures and positive externalities to merit goods and cultural exception, the study examines the evolution of the Italian system up to Law 220/2016 and the tax credit reform introduced between 2024 and 2025, which strengthens eligibility requirements, controls, traceability and industrial conditionalities. The empirical section combines DGCA and Cinetel data on one thousand feature films released between 2019 and 2024 and investigates the relationship between the intensity of public support and theatrical performance.

Abstract
The thesis analyses public support for the Italian film industry as a point of balance between cultural protection and industrial policy. After reconstructing the economic rationale for State intervention, from market failures and positive externalities to merit goods and cultural exception, the study examines the evolution of the Italian system up to Law 220/2016 and the tax credit reform introduced between 2024 and 2025, which strengthens eligibility requirements, controls, traceability and industrial conditionalities. The empirical section combines DGCA and Cinetel data on one thousand feature films released between 2019 and 2024 and investigates the relationship between the intensity of public support and theatrical performance.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
