This thesis investigates the relationship between the digital and the sustainable transition, the so-called twin transition, focusing on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the luxury industry. It addresses the following research question: in the context of the twin transition, how can artificial intelligence contribute to more sustainable strategic and operational decisions in the luxury industry? The work begins with a theoretical framework that reconstructs the concept of the twin transition, the two-way relationship between AI and sustainability, and the tensions that make luxury a particular case, caught between craftsmanship, heritage and technological innovation. On these foundations, the research adopts a qualitative approach, developing a single case study on EssilorLuxottica, a global leader in the luxury eyewear market. The analysis draws on semi-structured interviews with company figures at both the operational and strategic levels, complemented by internal documents and the group's sustainability report, following a logic of source triangulation. Through the analysis of concrete intelligent automation projects, the thesis examines how AI enters corporate decision-making and what connection, often not immediate, it holds with the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability. The aim is to offer a critical and grounded reading of how, even in a sector reluctant towards both technology and the logic of sustainability, AI can support more responsible choices.
