The organization of work has been largely redefined by the emergence and diffusion of smart working, particularly in terms of time, place, and modes of value production. This thesis aims to examine this phenomenon from economic, social, and human perspectives, highlighting how autonomy and digitalization have influenced productivity, well-being, and organizational culture. The first part of the thesis is devoted to a reconstruction of the historical evolution of work, with particular reference to the theories and applications of flexible work arrangements. The subsequent sections analyze the psychological and behavioral aspects that emerge in this new context, moving from more traditional dimensions such as autonomy and isolation to more nuanced—and at times ironic—aspects related to domestic routines. The empirical section consists of interviews with workers from diverse professions and age groups, with the aim of understanding perceptions, experiences, and critical issues encountered during the adoption of smart working. The final part of the thesis discusses the results that emerge from this research.
