Automation of Banking Process: Document Processing System

This thesis presents the work I carried out during my internship at Core Reply, a consulting firm specializing in core banking system development. The main project I was assigned to involved developing an application to automate the processing of Word documents for a large bank in Italy. The primary objective was to significantly reduce the time and operational costs required to build a banking PDF report. This was achieved by minimizing human interaction by enabling the system to autonomously read and write documents in accordance with specific business banking rules. Before developing the application, the bank’s first requirement was that a non-technical employee write a Word document, which was handed over to a technical employee, who converted it into a .jrxml template. Both the template and the Word document were stored in a shared drive, but not in a database. Therefore, it might be difficult to find a specific template. This step might take a longer time as Word documents become more complex and larger. To generate the final PDF report, the template file is uploaded to JasperSoft Studio, a specialized open-source reporting tool, along with a JSON file. The resulting PDF will vary based on the input file.
