This study aims to explore how mega-events are planned and organized, and to understand the impacts they generate on host cities. In particular, the ultimate aim of this research is to bridge theory and practice by analyzing how the organizational principles developed in Event Studies and Event Planning are concretely implemented in a contemporary mega-event. Building on existing literature, the research first examines the origins and evolution of mega-events, together with their main definitions, classifications, and typologies. It then explores the theoretical foundations that guide the organization of such large-scale events. The analysis focuses on a specific case: the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Conducted as part of my academic experience at Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris, this study combines a literature review with on-site field observations and conversations with local residents. The aim is to analyze how Paris approached the challenge of hosting one of the world’s most significant events, and to understand how the theories discussed in the literature apply in practice during the tangible organization of such a complex event. At the same time, the research reflects on how this experience has shaped the city’s urban, economic, and social landscape. Behind these events there are skilled planners who design the experience people live, starting from basic elements such as food and accommodation, and extending to long-term effects such as urban improvements made possible through investments linked to the organization of major events. This research contributes to the creation of knowledge about planned events by offering a deeper understanding of how mega-events are conceived, managed, and experienced by cities and their residents. The conclusion emphasizes that events take place within a specific cultural and national context: they are organized according to the culture of the host country, while at the same time influencing it. Moreover, since they are planned and managed by people, each event becomes a unique experience.

Abstract
Moreover, since they are planned and managed by people, each event becomes a unique experience.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
