My research starts from two case studies carried out in shelters or sanctuaries for formerly farmed animals, between the provinces of Bologna (BO) and Treviso (TV), Italy. With an antispeciesist and transfeminist approach, the research investigates aspects of animal liberation from contexts of exploitation, mainly farms, and the life path of animals once they arrive at the sanctuaries. The research question aims to investigate to what extent freedom is enabled inside FASes. Although the thesis focuses on the human point of view, the main objective of the work is to highlight the human-animal relationship (HAR) in its contradictions and complexity. By exploring the theme of freedom, understood as multispecies freedom, and not only human freedom, the thesis is committed to promoting lifestyles and representations that are alternatives to exploitation. By highlighting the individuality and agency of animals, free from contexts of exploitation, I return how they express themselves and manifest their intentions and will, negotiating them in turn with the people who lives at the sanctuary. FASes, as antispeciesist contexts, allow conflicting aspects, but above all care and attention, to emerge as essential components in the creation of complex communities that transcend species boundaries.

Abstract
FASes, as antispeciesist contexts, allow conflicting aspects, but above all care and attention, to emerge as essential components in the creation of complex communities that transcend species boundaries.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
