The thesis develops a critical analysis of the concept of vegetal agency and of the ways in which it can contribute to the rereading and reinterpretation of contemporary artistic practices involving the vegetal world, through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates, among others, art history, philosophy, ecocriticism, and the sociology of science. It therefore proposes a theoretical framework capable of interpreting the presence of the vegetal in artworks as that of an entity endowed with agency, acknowledging its relational capacities and narrative potential in artistic processes. To develop this line of inquiry, the thesis begins with a theoretical survey of the terminology related to the more-than-human and with a genealogical reconstruction of the growing centrality attributed to the concept of more-than-human agency, before examining some possible applications of this line of thought to art history. Eventually, by narrowing the scope of investigation, the main theoretical contributions concerning vegetal agency are critically examined, with the aim of proposing an original interpretative lens for artistic and curatorial practices that engage, and have engaged, in varying degrees, with vegetal matter. Finally, the results of the theoretical analysis are compared with three case studies, each of which develops and expands, in its own direction, the concepts previously explored.

Abstract
Finally, the results of the theoretical analysis are compared with three case studies, each of which develops and expands, in its own direction, the concepts previously explored.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
