L'estetica della lingua araba: miti, identità ed espressione artistica

This thesis aims to analyze and explore the aesthetic value of the Arabic language, examining the pre-Islamic and pre-modern periods. The work is divided in three parts: in the first chapter, the main theme is the analysis of Arabic as a key factor in the construction of a common ideal of “Arab identity.” The second chapter focuses on the role that linguists played in forming myths about the beauty of Arabic and its consequent superiority over other languages of the world. We will analyze the ideas and texts of some Arab linguists and grammarians of the classical period, both from the eastern region and from al-Andalus. The last chapter focuses on the study of the Arabic alphabet and its artistic and symbolic potential, analyzing calligraphy as an artistic tool, demonstrating that the Arabic language has aesthetic value in all its manifestations, from orality to writing. In fact, we believe it is necessary to combine perspectives in order to arrive at a better and more complex understanding of Arabic as a complete phenomenon, which is expressed in all the sensory fields of human beings. Above all, we believe it is essential to emphasize that the importance of the Arabic language in the society that uses it is global and absolute and finds its justification in both the field of orality and that of writing.

La presente tesi mira ad analizzare ed esplorare il valore estetico della lingua araba, prendendo in esame il periodo preislamico e premoderno. Il lavoro presenta una triplice struttura: nel primo capitolo, il tema principale è l'analisi dell'arabo come fattore chiave per la costruzione di un ideale comune di “identità araba”. Il secondo capitolo si concentra sul ruolo che i linguisti hanno svolto nella formazione dei miti sulla bellezza dell'arabo e sulla sua conseguente superiorità rispetto alle altre lingue del mondo. Analizzeremo le idee e i testi di alcuni linguisti e grammatici arabi dell'epoca classica, tanto provenienti dell'area orientale che da al-Andalus. L'ultimo capitolo si concentra sullo studio dell'alfabeto arabo e del suo potenziale artistico e simbolico, analizzando la calligrafia come strumento artistico, a dimostrazione del fatto che la lingua araba ha un valore estetico in tutte le sue manifestazioni, dall'oralità alla scrittura. Infatti, riteniamo necessario unire le prospettive per arrivare a una comprensione migliore e più complessa dell'arabo come fenomeno completo, che si declina in tutti i campi sensoriali dell'essere umano. Soprattutto, riteniamo fondamentale sottolineare come l'importanza della lingua araba nella società che la utilizza sia globale e assoluta e trovi la sua giustificazione sia nel campo dell'oralità che in quello della scrittura.
