The study of the Italian Resistance is essential for understanding the contemporary history of Italy. Examining the period between 8th September 1943 and 25th April 1945 allows us to grasp the complexity of a conflict that was simultaneously a civil war and a war of liberation, as well as the plurality of choices that shaped it. This work aims to develop a teaching proposal for the final year of Secondary School, enabling students to interpret the Resistance as a multifaceted historical process, essential for understanding the present and the emergence of republican democracy. It is crucial to analyse not only the events themselves but also the formation of public memory, shaped by diverse political, cultural, and institutional contexts and still today the subject of debate and interpretation. Equally important is individual memory, which reveals the variety of experiences and the decisions of those involved. Within this framework, oral history plays a central role: first-hand testimonies preserve voices that might otherwise be lost and encourage critical reflection on the mechanisms of memory, including the selection and shaping of recollections. To foster an understanding of this complexity, a teaching approach integrating multiple sources is required, allowing students to compare different narratives, identify divergences, and grasp the multiple meanings that the experience of the Resistance has assumed, including at the local level.

Abstract
To foster an understanding of this complexity, a teaching approach integrating multiple sources is required, allowing students to compare different narratives, identify divergences, and grasp the multiple meanings that the experience of the Resistance has assumed, including at the local level.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
