This thesis presents a translation and analysis of a selection of chapters from “In altre parole” by Jhumpa Lahiri. Published in 2015 by Ugo Guanda publishing house, it is the first book written directly in Italian by an Indian-American author. It uses the author's personal experience as an example to explore a range of issues that can be encountered in learning a new language, which are of great value for every language learner to think about. This thesis is divided into five parts: firstly, it focuses on the life of Jhumpa Lahiri and analyses her writing style through her books, which is relevant to this book and will help to deepen readers' understanding of it. "In altre parole" has a total of 23 chapters, the second part of the thesis is about the translation of 19 chapters, from Italian to Chinese. The selection of these chapters follows the process of foreign language learning, including the reasons, motivations, methods, possible difficulties (stereotypes of others), how to use it, and the meaning of learning a foreign language, providing an essentially complete coverage of various aspects relevant to foreign language learners. The third part will discuss the translation process of the second part, which is the analysis and comment on the translation. This part will be combined with translation theory to describe the specific translation strategies adopted in this translation. The fourth part will explore some of the language learning theories included in this book, in the hope that it will give all foreign language learners some inspirations. Finally, there is a concluding section which reviews the core ideas and main contents of this thesis.

Finally, there is a concluding section which reviews the core ideas and main contents of this thesis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
