This thesis presents a research study that analyzes pro-environmental behaviors related to waste separation in the Municipality of Villorba, with the aim of understanding how a practice originally perceived as a normative obligation can transform into an ecological habitus and contribute to the construction of a form of shared environmental citizenship. The investigation is guided by three research questions: to what extent does waste separation influence the adoption of other sustainable behaviors; which biographical factors shape individuals’ predisposition toward ecological practices; and what role do local institutions play in promoting their diffusion. The initial hypotheses attributed particular relevance to socio-demographic variables (age, educational level, field of study), to the role of children as mediators of new practices, and to the ability of institutions to consolidate citizens’ trust. The methodology was based on a qualitative case study, conducted through semi-structured interviews with citizens belonging to different generations, as well as an interview with the municipal administration.
La presente tesi propone una ricerca analizza i comportamenti pro-ambientali legati alla raccolta differenziata nel Comune di Villorba, con l’obiettivo di comprendere come una pratica originariamente percepita come obbligo normativo possa trasformarsi in habitus ecologico e contribuire alla costruzione di una forma di cittadinanza ambientale condivisa. L’indagine muove da tre domande di ricerca: in che misura la raccolta differenziata influisce sull’adozione di altri comportamenti sostenibili; quali fattori biografici orientano la predisposizione ai comportamenti ecologici; quale ruolo ricoprono le istituzioni locali nel promuoverne la diffusione. Le ipotesi di partenza hanno attribuito particolare rilevanza a variabili socio-demografiche (età, titolo di studio, percorso formativo), al ruolo dei figli come mediatori di nuove pratiche e alla capacità delle istituzioni di consolidare la fiducia dei cittadini. La metodologia si è basata su un studio di caso qualitativo, con la realizzazione di interviste semi-strutturate a cittadini appartenenti a diverse generazioni, oltre a un’intervista all’amministrazione comunale.
