This master's thesis examines the journalistic and narrative work of Giampaolo Pansa, a central figure in the Italian cultural and media landscape from the second half of the 20th century to the early decades of the 21st century. A review of his journalistic and literary output reveals the strong thematic and methodological coordinates that characterise the author's entire career. Pansa is characterised as an incisive, ironic and politically engaged journalist, capable of problematising and sometimes denouncing the shortcomings of an Italian Republic that is still ideologically immature, highlighting a profound and personal critical analysis of society. Secondly, the thesis aims to establish a dialogue between the author's journalistic work and his extensive essayistic and narrative output, focusing in particular on historical novels with a strong educational and informative intent. Of particular importance is the so-called “Ciclo dei vinti” (Cycle of the Vanquished), in which Pansa restores voice and narrative dignity to the fascists defeated in the civil war, sparking widespread debate and accusations of revisionism regarding the relationship between historical memory and national identity. Through his dual roles as journalist and storyteller, Pansa has established himself as a committed intellectual, capable of traversing over half a century of Italian history, recounting its contradictions, political transformations and crises in the information system. His work therefore stands as a valuable testimony not only to the trajectory of a single author, but also to the role of journalism and fiction in shaping contemporary Italian civil consciousness.
