This research focuses on the analysis of ancient text quotations and their adapted translation in the podcast Matronae. Voci di donne dall’antica Roma. The main objective is to examine how excerpts from Latin authors quoted in the Italian texts, are reinterpreted for an oral and educational format, balancing fidelity to the source text with accessibility for today’s audience. The corpus consists of selected episodes dedicated to female figures of ancient Rome, in which the recognized Spanish translations are compared with the podcast adapted translations to identify the strategies employed: expansion, reduction, and variation (lexical, syntactic, and pragmatic). The analysis is grounded in Skopos theory, which justifies the changes introduced according to the communicative purpose of the podcast. Ultimately, the thesis aims to show how the adaptive translation of classical texts in a contemporary medium such as podcasting fosters the dissemination of cultural heritage in the present day.
