The final thesis explores the concept of translanguaging as an innovative pedagogical approach, analysing its various practical and theoretical applications, from overcoming traditional monolingual ideologies to integrating the digital world. The first section of the thesis primarily focuses on the evolution of translanguaging, its origins, and the cognitive benefits it offers to multilingual students. It presents two educational projects: the CUNY-NYSIEB project in New York and the Italian project AltRoparlante, both of which aim to value diverse linguistic repertoires and promote student inclusion. In the second part of the thesis, the relationship between translanguaging and technology is explored, introducing the concept of digital translanguaging. Themes such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) are explored, alongside an analysis of multimodal tools, including digital storytelling. The third and final part of the thesis applies the theoretical principles discussed in the previous chapters, notably by proposing a project named The Multilingual Future Manifesto, which involves five activities and the Speak, Share, Connect project, which involves three activities. Having completed the description of each of the two projects, what follows is a personal and formative reflection on those just described. The final document concludes with a reflective epilogue on the thesis’s main theme.
La tesi finale esplora il concetto di translanguaging come approccio pedagogico innovativo, analizzandone i diversi risvolti pratici e teorici: dal superamento delle ideologie monolingue tradizionali all’integrazione del mondo digitale. La prima sezione della tesi si concentra principalmente sull’evoluzione del translanguaging, sulle sue origini e sui benefici cognitivi che offre agli studenti multilingue. Vengono presentati due progetti educativi: il CUNY-NYSIEB di New York e il progetto italiano AltRoparlante, entrambi finalizzati a valorizzare i repertori linguistici degli studenti e a promuovere l’inclusione. Nella seconda parte della tesi viene approfondito il rapporto tra translanguaging e tecnologia, introducendo il concetto di digital translanguaging. Si affrontano tematiche come il Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) e viene proposta un’analisi di strumenti multimodali, tra cui il digital storytelling. La terza e ultima parte della tesi applica i principi teorici discussi nei capitoli precedenti, attraverso la proposta di un progetto denominato The Multilingual Future Manifesto, che comprende cinque attività, e del progetto Speak, Share, Connect, articolato in tre attività. Dopo la descrizione di ciascuno dei due progetti, viene presentata una riflessione personale e formativa sugli stessi. Il documento si conclude infine con un epilogo riflessivo sul tema centrale della tesi.
