This thesis aims to review and analyze the literature on the Chinese ba-construction within the context of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. This structure is a distinctive feature of Chinese grammar that fulfills various functions, ranging from marking the theme to indicating changes of state. For Chinese L2 learners, mastering this construction is often particularly challenging, which makes it both a peculiar and fascinating aspect of the language. The primary goal of the thesis is to provide an updated overview of the main grammatical and linguistic issues related to the ba-construction. To this end, the work reviews contemporary studies, with particular attention to research concerning Italophone and Anglophone learners, as well as Chinese sources on teaching Chinese as a second language. After examining the different perspectives that have emerged in the literature, the thesis then turns to the didactic implications highlighted by these studies.
