Chinese family businesses: origins, development and future trends

本论文旨在分析中国家族企业相关文献，收集关键信息以获得完整图景，并通过具体案例分析所收集数据的准确性。 在首章将这些企业置于全球背景框架下，识别其主要特征并提供可作为研究标准的定义（用于与非家族企业进行比较）之后，我们将转向中国家族企业的发展历程概述。 第三章将聚焦深圳证券交易所上市家族企业荣盛石化股份有限公司，从四个维度展开分析：其与中国政府的关系、治理结构、财务分析及国际化表现。分析所得数据将与国有控股上市公司中国石油化工股份有限公司进行对比，以验证文献综述中关于家族企业效率更高的论断是否成立。 最后，第四章将聚焦于识别中国家族企业当前面临或未来可能遭遇的问题及发展趋势。

This thesis aims to analyse the literature on Chinese family businesses, gather essential information to obtain a complete picture, and analyse the accuracy of the data collected using a concrete example. After an initial chapter that will serve to frame these businesses in the global context, identify their main characteristics and provide a definition that can serve as a criterion for studying and comparing these companies with non-family businesses, we will move on to a historical overview of family businesses in China. The third chapter will then be devoted to an analysis of Rongsheng Petrochemical Co., Ltd. – a family business listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange – from four different perspectives: its relationship with the Chinese government, its governance structure, its financial analysis and its international performance. The data from this analysis will then be compared with a state-controlled listed company, Sinopec, in order to verify the accuracy of the claims regarding the greater efficiency of family-run companies found during the literature reviewing. Finally, the fourth chapter will be devoted to identifying the current problems and future trends that Chinese family businesses are facing or may face in the future.
