The thesis focuses on how sustainability has become an important and urgent matter, specifically how it has impacted the interior design sector by becoming a driver of innovation. The first chapter will focus on what the concept of sustainability is and how it has evolved over time. It will provide information about the three main pillars of sustainability: planet, people, and profit. The second chapter will analyze this concept in the interior design industry. It will focus on why it is fundamental that interior designers adopt sustainable practices, analyzing them at the material and energy level, at the process level and at the individual level. Finally, the third chapter will focus on an analysis of case studies of companies adopting sustainable practices in this specific sector taking into consideration both the Green and Circular business model and the Social business models. The analysis aims at highlighting what is the perception of Gen Z on the matter, in the so called pre- and post-consciousness phases. Moreover, a cluster analysis was conducted to identify already developed areas and potential investment areas in this industry from a sustainable perspective.
