The present thesis examines the effectiveness of Content and language-integrated learning (CLIL) materials found in Italian high school textbooks in response to the challenges of inadequate and insufficient CLIL resources in this educational context. The study will delineate a checklist that will be used to conduct a qualitative analysis to assess the quality and relevance of CLIL materials found in selected textbooks. The analysis reveals that the materials taken into examination do not align entirely with CLIL principles, determining problems in its effective implementation and outcome in high school settings. Indeed, findings indicate that even if some textbooks present CLIL materials, they do not permit teachers to integrate content and language effectively unless they implement or modify them with self-made resources. This thesis aims to develop an evaluation checklist for CLIL materials to facilitate teachers' work in assessing and implementing CLIL materials to conduct CLIL lessons that incorporate its objectives.
