Nowadays companies have to deal with a big number of risks that spread their effects on a global scale. In particular, in the first part, we analyze the most important effects inside and outside the city context. Then, in the second part, we try to define what is the smart city. A single definition is not already available, but through analysis, we provide an overview of its elements and how this concept can help to mitigate the negative effects of the global risk inside the city, taking into account the problem of urban population growth. In particular, we conclude presenting some real examples to demonstrate the positive improvements introduced by the smart city approach all over the world.
