Juliet's Afterlife: the cultural heritage of a Shakesperian heroine.

This thesis aims to investigate the character of Juliet by William Shakespeare and how her character is still remembered worldwide today. Therefore, the aim of the thesis is to outline the pre- and post-Shakespeare figure of Juliet, how she has been adapted over the years in figurative art with the works of Francesco Hayez, and in film with the film adaptations of Franco Zeffirelli (1968) and Baz Luhrman (1996). Finally, the thesis intends to present another type of cultural heritage that is very popular today: The Juliet Club. This is a non-profit association that for over 30 years has endeavoured to answer letters from all over the world addressed to Juliet.

La tesi vuole indagare sul personaggio di Giulietta di William Shakespeare e su come il suo personaggio è tutt'oggi ricordato a livello mondiale. Per questo, l'obietivo della tesi è quello di delineare la figura di Giulietta pre- e post shakespeare, di come negli anni è stata riadattata nell'arte figurative con le opere di Francesco Hayez, così come nel cinema con gli adattamenti cinematografici di Franco Zeffirelli (1968) e Baz Luhrman (1996). Infine, la tesi intende presentare un altro tipo di retaggio culturale molto apprezzato al giorno d'oggi: ovvero Il club di Giulietta. Un associazione no-profit, che da oltre 30 anni si impegna di rispondere alle lettere provenienti da tutto il mondo indirizzate a Giulietta.
