Venezia tra passato e futuro: la rinascita dei palazzi storici attraverso l'arte contemporanea

The thesis aims to investigate how Venice's historical heritage can be enhanced through the promotion of contemporary art. The paper opens with an analysis of the historical and cultural link between the city of Venice and contemporary art, to show how Venice has long been an active and influential cultural and artistic center in the dynamics of the art world of our time. Two case studies will then be explored in depth, analyzing the work of private investors and their Foundations, which have taken over the management of historic Venetian palaces destined for abandonment or decay and contributed not only to their preservation and renovation, but also to their effective reconversion and valorization. The cases that will be considered are: the Pinault Foundation with Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana and the Berggruen Foundation with Palazzo Diedo. Through these examples, the aim is to show the value that these spaces have had in the history of the city, continue to have in the present and their future prospects, tracing the changes of use they have undergone over time, the difficulties they have gone through. But most of all, how the intervention of philanthropists such as Pinault and Berggruen, who have enabled the redevelopment and transformation of these historic buildings through the revitalizing power of contemporary art for the sake of culture, art, and the life of the community and the city itself, has been fundamental

La tesi si propone di indagare come sia possibile valorizzare il patrimonio storico veneziano attraverso la promozione dell'arte contemporanea. Il lavoro si apre con un'analisi del legame storico e culturale tra la città di Venezia e l'arte contemporanea, per mostrare come Venezia sia stata a lungo un centro culturale e artistico attivo e influente nelle dinamiche del mondo dell'arte del nostro tempo. Verranno poi approfonditi due casi di studio, analizzando l'operato di investitori privati e delle loro Fondazioni, che hanno preso in gestione palazzi storici veneziani destinati a un possibile abbandono o degrado e hanno contribuito non solo alla loro conservazione e ristrutturazione, ma anche alla loro effettiva riconversione e valorizzazione. I casi che verranno presi in considerazione sono: la Fondazione Pinault con Palazzo Grassi e Punta della Dogana e la Fondazione Berggruen con Palazzo Diedo. Attraverso questi esempi si vuole mostrare il valore che questi spazi hanno avuto nella storia della città, continuano ad avere nel presente e le loro prospettive future, ripercorrendo i cambiamenti d'uso che hanno subito nel tempo, le difficoltà che hanno attraversato. Ma soprattutto come sia stato fondamentale l’intervento di filantropi come Pinault e Berggruen, che hanno permesso la riqualificazione e trasformazione di questi palazzi storici, grazie al potere rivitalizzante dell'arte contemporanea, per il bene della cultura, dell’arte e della vita della comunità e della città stessa.
