This thesis explores the global cruise market, focusing on its structure, challenges, and recent developments, with a specific emphasis on China's entry into the domestic cruise industry. It highlights Adora Cruises, the first Chinese cruise line, established in 2015 through a joint venture between Carnival Corporation and the China State Shipbuilding Corporation. Adora’s operations, initially set for 2020, were delayed until 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study examines the global cruise market's growth, key regional segments, and emerging markets, alongside the industry's adaptation to pandemic-induced disruptions. It addresses safety regulations, operational complexities, environmental sustainability efforts, and the strategic hubs of major players like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and MSC. Focusing on China, the research delves into its cruise market's evolution, government policies supporting its growth, and infrastructure like cruise terminals. Key initiatives, including the Maritime Silk Road and Made in China 2025, are discussed as pivotal to the sector's expansion. The case study on Adora Cruises analyzes its shipbuilding collaboration with Fincantieri, product customization for Chinese tourists, sales strategies, and itinerary planning. Finally, the thesis uses Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate Adora’s operational efficiency in 2024 compared to global competitors, providing insights into its strategic positioning and performance optimization in its inaugural year.
