The thesis addresses a very fruitful area for the Digital and Public Humanities: the theme of media according to the vision of the American author H. P. Lovecraft. Art and technology are used as horrific pretextes in his stories and novellas, and they are the result of a philosophy expressed in his letters to friends and colleagues. Games are problematic for the author as well. These three spheres, however, contributed to consolidate the subgenre of Lovecraftian horror, inspiring numerous artists, writers and game designers, and giving a posthumous popularity to the literature of the Hermit of Providence. The thesis describes how these fields exploit their qualities to adapt literary themes, showing the common thread that unites the personalities who have distinguished themselves in the horror genre. Art, technology and Games are present in the form of videogames, digital media so distinct by nature from the stories of Lovecraft's Weird Fiction, and which, nevertheless, still manage to fuel the subgenre and consecrate the writer.
La tesi affronta un ambito molto proficuo per le Digital e Public Humanities: la tematica dei media secondo la visione dell'autore americano H. P. Lovecraft. L'arte e la tecnologia sono utilizzate come espedienti orrorifici nei suoi racconti e novelle, e sono frutto di pensieri esplicitati nelle sue lettere ad amici e colleghi. Un altro campo problematico per l'autore è il gioco. Queste tre sfere, tuttavia, hanno contribuito a consolidare il sottogenere dell'orrore lovecraftiano, ispirando numerosi artisti, scrittori e game designers, e dando una postuma popolarità alla letteratura del Solitario di Providence. La tesi descrive come questi campi sfruttano le proprie qualità per adattare temi letterari, mostrando il filo rosso che unisce le personalità che si sono distinte nel genere dell'orrore. Arte, tecnologia e gioco si uniscono nel videogioco, un medium digitale così distinto per natura dai racconti della Weird Fiction di Lovecraft, e che, tuttavia, riesce comunque ad alimentare il sottogenere e a consacrare lo scrittore.
