The main topic of the thesis is sustainability related to mega sport events, in particular Olympic Games. After having analysed the general meaning of sustainability and the standards on which Europe and the Asia Pacific region rely on, we move on discussing about what are the mega sport events and what are the origins of Olympic Games and Paralympic Games with also a focus on the strategies adopted by the International Olympic Committee to promote sustainable development and to fight against climate change. In the third chapter we explore the social, environmental and economic impacts related to mega sport events with some positive and negative examples of editions of Olympic Games and Football World Cups. Finally, in the last chapter the attention shifts to the comparison between sustainability strategies and public reactions of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
