Keywords: air pollution, India, pollutant, air quality The thesis deals with one of the most acute environmental problems of modern India, namely air contamination. As general information, the paper describes the main types of air pollutants, the main sources of air pollution and its impact on human health, the environment and the economy. In addition, some general world statistical data on this issue are provided. When describing the situation in India, the main causes of the poor air quality in this country are characterized, as well as factors aggravating the situation. The influence of globalization on the level of air pollution in India is also considered. The author focuses on how the problem of air pollution affects different groups of the population, such as pregnant women, elderly people and people suffering from respiratory diseases in certain Indian cities – Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The paper outlines what actions are already being taken at the state and individual levels to improve air quality along with suggesting how the measures already taken can be expanded and what new measures can be implemented.
