This research analyses the democratic confederalism framework developed by Ocalan during the 2000s. It focuses on the kurdish civil society organizations and political parties. The thesis is divided in three sections: 1)historical background of the kurdish movement, from the '60s until today; 2) study of democratic confederalism through Ocalan's writings and kurdish organization's documents in order to trace back its ideological roots; 3)analysis of how it has been applied by Kurdish organizations in Turkey.
