Children’s Literature is by all means of great importance with the deep motive to enlighten and educate young readers. Looking back to the history of Chinese Children’s Literature, we would find out that since the the Qing dynasty, the development of domestic Children’s Literature is strongly associated to that of foregin Children’s Literature translation history. In recent years, Children’s Literature market has seen a significant global booming, and there has been an active introduction of foreign copyright in China. Compared to the heated publication of foreign Children’s Literature, however, the research to its literariness or translation theory is in the marginalized position, which has caused a serious imbalance between the development of theory and practice of Children’s Literature. The present project will take the classic italian Children’s Literature Il giornalino di Gian Burrasca as a case study and make analysis on its translation process, with the aim to analyze the linguistic and translational features of Children’s Literature and its translation principles under the guidance of Functional Equivalence. The thesis describes the application of certain translation methods and techniques in the translation progress, such as direct translation, addition, and division with a comparative analysis with Wang Ganqing’s translated version. For the purpose of raising the interest of the translators in translating Children’s Literature, and to promote the development of Children’s Literature translation in China.
