This thesis addresses the phenomenon of human rights regionalism. It aims to give an overview of the concept of universality of the human rights, of what regionalism is, its causes and what advantages it can bring to the human rights protection. The thesis focuses then on the more important regional human rights conventions (European Convention on Human Rights, African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and Arab Charter on Human Rights), it tries to outline what are their characteristics and what are cultural reasons behind them. These characteristics are then shown in the bodies of the conventions. The conventions are finally compared to highlight their differences and similarities.
